Capital One Cup

Result: Manchester City 41 Hull City

Date: 01 December 2015

Venue: Etihad

Kevin Du Bruyne bagged a brace for Manchester City, as they thumped Hull City 4-1 to secure their spot in the Capital One Cup semi-finals.

City drew first blood after 12 minutes, as Wilfried Bony tapped into an empty net from 12-yards out, after Kevin De Bruyne's low effort crashed against the upright.

Hull were pegged back for most of the first half but they nearly bagged an equaliser in the 20th minute when Isaac Hayden forced Willy Caballero into a fine save with an effort from distance.

The visitors had another opening in the 42nd minute, as Chuba Akpom forced Caballero into a low save, before the City goalkeeper did well to deal with Aluko's effort from 25-yards out.

The score remained 1-0 in favour of City at the halftime break.

The home side nearly doubled their advantage 10 minutes into the halftime break with a stinging effort from De Bruyne that forced Eldin Jakupovic into a fine save.

De Bruyne was left frustrated by Jakupovic once again in the 64th minute, as the Belgian's dipping effort forced the Hull City shot-stopper into a finger-tip save.

David Silva was looking to get his name on the score-sheet and he went close in the 72nd minute, as his lob from a tight angle sailed just wide of the upright.

City eventually grabbed their second goal in the 80th minute when substitute, Kelechi Iheanacho, turned home Raheem Sterling's cross from the left flank.

The home side then added a third goal a few minutes later when De Bruyne pounced on a poor back pass to poke the ball past the on-rushing Jakupovic.

However, City were not done there, as De Bruyne bagged his second of the night with a sublime free-kick from 20-yards out.

The Championship did bag a consolation in stoppage time, as Robertson played a neat one-two with Abel Hernandez, before lobbing Caballero.

Other results:

Everton booked their spot in the final four of competition, as goals from Gerard Deulofeu and Romelu Lukaku secured a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough.

Stoke City also progressed to the semi-finals, as they registered a 2-0 win over Sheffield United, thanks to goals from Ibrahim Afellay and Phil Bardsley.
