An FC Barcelona superstar has apologised for his club's absence from the FIFA awards gala that took place on Monday night.

The Spanish giants decided to not to attend the event, even though four of their stars were named in the 2016 World Team of the Year, namely Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
In a video sent to FIFA by Iniesta, the Blaugrana captain explained why the players decided not to go to the awards gala.
"We want to show our gratitude at having been chosen and apologise for not coming to the gala," the Spanish midfielder said in a video, as quoted by Sport English.
"We have a hugely important game against Athletic (on Wednesday) and so we couldn't be there.
"I hope that everyone has a happy gala."

The Catalans are preparing for the second leg of their Copa del Rey tie against Athletic Bilbao – they are currently losing 2-1 on aggregate.
