The Portuguese beat his longstanding rival to the prestigious award for a fourth time, although Messi still has one more Golden Ball than the Los Blancos talisman.
Seemingly in a bid to be politically correct, Josep Maria Bartomeu has stated Ronaldo is a great player, but also insisted that Messi is still the best.
"The world No. 1 is Messi. He has been for a while and will remain so, but Ronaldo is a great player," he told beIN SPORTS.
"Messi is the best in the world and of all time. At 29, he's still at a high level and is growing every day.
"He has a contract and there is time to talk about a new one. We want him to finish his career at Barcelona."
The Barca boss also confirmed that the Catalan giants are in contract talks with Luis Suarez, but will only chat about manager Luis Enrique's expiring deal after the season is completed.
"Suarez will sign with us soon, and soon we will announce it," Bartomeu added.
"He's brought a change in mentality, not only goals, and is a very ambitious player who deserves to continue here and wants to do so.
"Our desire is to continue after the summer with Luis Enrique as well, but we won't sit down to talk to him until the end of the season."
