Former Real Madrid and France midfielder Christian Karembeu believes Cristiano Ronaldo will be victorious at next week's FIFA Awards in Zurich.
The Best FIFA Football Awards will take place on Monday, 9 January, as Ronaldo gets ready to battle Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann for the title of Men's Player of the Year for 2016, but it is the Los Blancos talisman who is the favourite after recently claiming his fourth Ballon d'Or crown.
Karembeu, who was a FIFA World Cup, European Championship and UEFA Champions League winner during his playing days, recently told Soccer Laduma that he's backing the Portuguese superstar to claim the title next week.
"I would pick Cristiano. He's won the European Championships in France – even if it was from the bench as a coach! Also because he's scored many goals again, and got a club record. He's a workaholic and a great professional," the 46-year-old said in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma, issue 1004.
"I'm sorry for Messi because he's lost many finals with Argentina, and I know they can do better, but you can see that him playing for his club and country are very different. It's incredible. He's a pure talent."
