It has not been a pleasant few weeks for the South African tactician in Casablanca. The record Moroccan champions have relinquished second position in the Botola Pro Inwi — the final CAF Champions League qualification spot — after four successive draws in the top flight. And while they did beat FUS Rabat 1-0 in the Moroccan Throne Cup second round, the victory is now in vain after they were eliminated from the competition this past weekend by Moghreb Tetouan following a 1-0 defeat.
Reports subsequently began to surface, casting doubt over the Johannesburg native’s future at the Red Castle. However, in a shocking turn of events, news broke earlier this week that the 38-year-old had not been paid since his arrival at the start of the season.
It was alleged that for the eight months that Mokwena and his South African technical staff — Allan Freese, Sinethemba Badela, and goalkeeper coach Sean Louw — had been in Casablanca, they had not been paid a dime by the club.
According to Kooora, however, the North African giants have released documents stating that the former Orlando Pirates, Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns boss and his compatriots have been receiving compensation, and that they have not been paid for the past two months only.
The same report claims that what was already a frosty relationship has now worsened, and that the three-time African champions have summoned the manager’s representatives to identify who was responsible for the supposed leaks — on the eve of a crucial league encounter against arch-rivals Raja Club Athletic.

It is also believed that the club are willing to sack Mokwena should they fail to beat the Green Eagles, although it may set the club back $1 million (R19.7 million).
