Abdellah Haimoud's contract with the Red Castle expired a few weeks ago, as per Transfermarkt, and it seems the Moroccan giants were ready to move on without the attacking midfielder.
Haimoud had been with the club since 2021, and looked poised to join the likes of Yahya Jabrane and Ayoub El Amloud as one of the longer-serving Wydad stars to bid farewell to the Stade Mohamed V.
According to Kooora, however, Mokwena was not keen on losing him too, and is said to have spoken to the chiefs at the club about his desire to keep him.
While the South African tactician has been with the Moroccan side for a few weeks now, it is his experiences as Mamelodi Sundowns head coach facing Haimoud in continental competition that led to the 37-year-old insisting on keeping the attacker.
Wydad have welcomed a plethora of new players since the Johannesburg-born head coach's appointment, but both Mokwena and club president Hicham Ait Menna reportedly feel it is important to still have some of the older contingent present at the club to help with the integration of the new arrivals.

The same report claims that Wydad are now in discussions with Haimoud and his agent over the terms of an extension as they look to finalise a new contract before the start of the season.
