'Pitso The Reason For Al Ahly Decline'

'Pitso The Reason For Al Ahly Decline'

After leaving the club three months ago, Pitso Mosimane is once again being blamed for Al Ahly's recent failures, this time by one of the team's former goalkeepers.

Why Mane Chose Bayern Over Liverpool Revealed?

In recent months, Mosimane has been berated in Egyptian media for his last few months as Al Ahly coach, and now a former Al Ahly player has come out to further lambast the South African tactician for the Red Devils' current struggles.

The Kagiso native left the team while it was suffering some erratic league form and his successor, Ricardo Soares, was unable to salvage the season by winning the Egyptian Premier League as bitter rivals Zamalek were able to retain their title.

Now former Ahly goalkeeper Ahmed Schubert says the ex-Bafana Bafana coach is the one responsible for the club's current lacklustre state.

"There is an agreement between Al Ahly's elements, that the former coach, Pitso Mosimane, was the cause of the physical decline in performance and technical condition in the last period due to the long periods of rest obtained by the red team," Schubert said, as per Ahly News.

"What Pitso Mosimane did by giving the players long breaks, also affected the results of the red team during the presence of the Portuguese Ricardo Soares, as he stumbled in finding solutions to the players' stress, and the players' lack of strong physical readiness."

During Mosimane's stint as head coach of the Club of the Century, he was able win two CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups, and an Egyptian Cup, amassing one of the best trophy hauls of any Ahly manager in this century, but in recent weeks has been described by some as a "lucky and deceptive" manager, while also being called a "mediocre" coach.

Ex-Al Ahly Star Slams Pitso

The former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach was recently asked if a return to Cairo was on the cards, but said he was content with what he and his team were able to achieve there.

Marcel Koller was appointed as the record African champions' newest coach on the weekend.
