Morocco Boss Ready To Overcome South Africa Stumbling Block

Morocco Boss Ready To Overcome South Africa Stumbling Block

With South Africa thwarting Morocco in both the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in recent years, the coach of the North African nation’s youth side is ready to avenge those defeats.

South Africa have proven to be a thorn in the side of Morocco of late. In 2022, on home soil, Banyana Banyana beat the Atlas Lionesses in the final of the WAFCON. Then, at the most recent AFCON, Bafana Bafana defied the odds by eliminating Morocco, with Hugo Broos’ charges remaining the only side to have defeated them since their historic 2022 FIFA World Cup run.

Now, the two nations are set to meet again—this time in the quarter-finals of the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations. With Morocco hosting the tournament, there will be added pressure on the home team to go all the way, but head coach Nabil Baha insists he is trying to alleviate that pressure ahead of the clash against Amajimbos.

"I have great appreciation for the Moroccan fans who expect a lot from this team, but I try as much as possible not to burden the players with more than they can bear because they, in turn, want to present a gift to Morocco in the form of winning the Africa Cup of Nations,” the French-born tactician said, as per Kooora.

"The preparations were ideal, not only before the match, but before the tournament as a whole, so we are ready for the confrontation and confident that we will accomplish the mission as planned.

"Support is what we need, just as we expect patience from the fans. Quality is present, as is competence, but the competition is fierce."
