Mokwena's tenure in Casablanca did not begin in the best possible fashion. The 37-year-old was hired by the Red Castle with massive expectations placed on him after the club endured their worst league finish in a decade.
The South African won the South African Premiership last season after losing only one game during the 2023/24 campaign with Mamelodi Sundowns, but in his first match as boss of the record Moroccan champions he suffered defeat as Wydad lost 1-0 to Maghreb de Fes away from home.
Mokwena did, however, get his side back to winning ways in the Excellence Cup as they secured victory over Jeunesse Massira, beating them 2-0. Now, the Johannesburg native will also be looking for a positive result in the league and will be counting on his new arrivals to help him achieve this.
During the encounter against MAS Fes, the ex-Orlando Pirates head coach did not have many of his new arrivals at his disposal, but, according to Le Site Info Sports, he will be counting on Pedrinho, Senegal international M'Baye Niang and ex-Sundowns star Abdelmounaim Boutouil specifically to help his charges claim their first three points of the season.
