Bafana Bafana's record goalscorer has overseen two games in charge of the Kenyan national side but is still in search of his first victory.
However, McCarthy has remained confident in his team and their abilities and was impressed by what he has seen so far.
The former Blackburn Rovers striker told NTV that he plans to select a squad blended with youth and experience in the hopes of pushing Kenyan football to greater heights.
The former Manchester United first-team coach said players from Kenya's U20 side, known as the Rising Stars, would be key for the team's future.
"We do have the right material because there are a lot of young stars coming through," the former Cape Town City boss said.
McCarthy stressed the importance of having experienced players within the ranks.
"You also need the experienced players, the players who have been there and done that," the former FC Porto player said.
"So, we need them to also make the young players understand what it takes to play for this national team, why I have 50 caps or why I've represented Kenya more than 20 times," McCarthy continued.
"This allows the younger players to learn from their experience and understand what is required," McCarthy continued.

The former AmaZulu coach said he would not disregard experienced players in favour of younger ones but admitted the new generation would eventually lead the country foward.
