KickOff reported exclusively that Riveiro was the subject of a big-money offer from the Red Devils.
"Al Ahly has put a mouth-watering offer for Jose Riveiro," an Al-Ahly source said. "The coach could be tempted to move to Egypt next season. The deal is highly possible."
Egyptian publication Youm7 reported that the club is looking to appoint their new coach before the FIFA Club World Cup in June, after sacking Swiss coach Marcel Koller. Emad El-Nahhas is currently in charge on an interim basis.
The Red Devils have reportedly ruled out Al-Fateh coach Jose Gomes and former Al Ahly coach Rene Weiler, despite their familiarities with the Egyptian league.
The publication said Gomes was interested in the Al Ahly role but the club's management backed away from the decision.
Meanwhile, Weiler's appointment has been rejected as the club reportedly fears he will repeat his actions and leave the club the way he did during his previous tenure.
Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that the club is looking for certain qualities from the new manager, including his ability to manage big-name players, former Al-Ahly player Walid Salah El-Din said.
"A coach’s strength is measured by how he deals with star players," the former player said. "We all saw how Manuel José managed the likes of Aboutrika, Meteb, and the rest of that golden generation. That’s what reveals a strong coach.”

"The new Al Ahly coach must know how to lead the stars tactically and manage squad rotation well. He also has to control the dressing room with firmness and discipline," El-Din added.
