Kaizer Chiefs could be on the verge of missing out on one of their long-standing transfer targets as Egyptian giants Al Ahly have reportedly entered the race for the sought-after striker, the Siya crew has been informed.
As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi have identified Pyramids FC forward Fiston Mayele as their primary target since coach Nasreddine Nabi's arrival.

However, sources close to the striker have indicated that Al Ahly have made inquiries about his availability.
"It's true Pyramids want to keep him and that's why they have offered him a new two-year contract when his current contract is only ending in June 2026. And one of the teams that has enquired about him is their Cairo rival, Al Ahly. At the moment there is nothing much we can say but the interest is there and Al Ahly have enquired about him," the insider told Soccer Laduma.
A second source stated that the potential decision regarding Mayele’s future—whether to stay at Pyramids or make a move—will likely come down to financial factors.
"You see, as much as Kaizer Chiefs and Al Ahly could both be interested in Mayele, it will go down to how much they are offering. Personally he is believed to be on a very good salary and Pyramids are one of highest paying clubs not only in Egypt but in Africa as well. So although there is different interest in him, it will all go down to monetary factors," the second insider revealed.

Mayele has proven to be a vital player for Pyramids, not only in the Egyptian Premier League but also in the CAF Champions League. He scored two crucial goals in the semi-finals against Orlando Pirates, helping to secure Pyramids a spot in the final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Should Chiefs continue to wish to secure Mayele’s signature, they’ll need to fend off more than just interest from Al Ahly, as Pyramids FC appear determined to retain one of their star players.
