Despite leading his side to qualification for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after topping Bafana Bafana's group, a shocking report suggests that Ghana coach Charles Akonnor has not been paid a single cent over the past 12 months.
The 47-year-old was appointed as Black Stars boss in January 2020, but has not received his agreed salary for a year, according to GHANAsoccernet.
It is claimed that Akonnor was only paid for his first three months in charge of the team, but has not been paid for his services over the past 12 months.
When he got the job, Akonnor signed a two-year deal after agreeing to a monthly salary of $25 000 (R370 000), meaning the Ghana FA owe him a total of $300 000 (R4.4 million).
Unlike his predecessor Kwesi Appiah, Akonnor has also not been furnished with an official residence.
The Ghana manager has nine months left on his current contract, but it remains unclear why he has not been paid and if the issue will be resolved ahead of the upcoming AFCON in Cameroon.
Despite the distractions, the Black Stars qualified as winners of Group C after collecting 13 points and losing only one game.
The Ghana FA and the country's Ministry of Sport are yet to make an official statement on the situation.
