On Monday, reports across Europe and Africa suggested Bayer Leverkusen's Victor Boniface will be unavailable for the Super Eagles in Ivory Coast.
The 23-year-old forward has been in impressive form for Xavi Alonso's side this season, having scored 16 goals in 23 matches across all competitions.
While he is yet to become a key player for Nigeria, Boniface was widely considered one of the players to watch ahead the tournament.
Reuters reports the ex-Union SG man suffered a groin injury in training on Monday and missed his country's warm-up match against Guinea.
After it was said he will be out for around six weeks, Boniface wished his Nigerian teammates good luck ahead of competition on social media.
"Good luck guys. Wish you guys all the best at AFCON, Super Eagles" he wrote on his Instagram account.
