The story

Celebrated sports fan Joy "Mama Joy" Chauke has posted a lengthy letter to her former employer, MaMkhize touching on the recent news about Royal AM's impending expulsion from the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

As reported by the Siya Crew Royal AM are at risk of being expelled the PSL, with a statement revealed on Wednesday confirmed that the PSL's executive has suggested expelling the KwaZulu-Natal-based club, which was placed under curatorship by SARS last year due to MaMkhize's tax debt of approximately R40 million.

The PSL's statement raised concerns about Royal AM's failure to meet its obligations to the PSL and accused the club of "misrepresenting material information" during its application for membership renewal in July of the previous year.

When Thwihli Thwahla received their top flight status in 2021, they startled many fans by announcing Mama Joy, who built her reputation as a superfan by supporting the Buccaneers, as their new number one fan.

Since then, Mama Joy has fiercely backed the club and owner MaMkhize with the letter, signed-off on behalf of Thwihli Thwahla's fans, underlying her admiration for the controversial businesswoman.

"We are so incredibly wounded to hear about the insolvency of our team. Losing something you've poured your heart and soul into. building something from the ground up, is an incredibly difficult experience, we can only imagine how much this must hurt," read the statement shared by Mama Joy to MaMkhize

"We know words may not be enough to ease the pain, but we want you to know that we will always support you. We know that you are a strong woman and a resilient person, and we have no doubt that you will navigate through this difficult time and emerge stronger than ever," added the statement.

If Royal AM is expelled, the league will continue with 15 teams, and all their results from the current season will be erased. The club has played only 11 matches this season and has also struggled to pay player salaries for several months.
