The Moroccan outfit were then drawn against another Egyptian side in Pyramids FC for the quarter-finals.
According to Kooora, a source at the Moroccan side are happy to have avoided the defending champions.
"We were hoping not to face Al-Ahly, which is what happened, in addition to Esperance getting out of our way, which is what happened in the end," the source said.
"Facing Pyramids puts Portuguese Alexandre Santos (the team's coach) to the test, given his previous results with Moroccan clubs; he failed to achieve any victory over seven of them."
"Pyramids previously faced the Royal Army two years ago in the Confederation Cup, we drew with them and won the Rabat match, and Pyramids did not win against any of the Moroccan teams they faced in the Confederation Cup previously (Raja, Nahdat Berkane), so it is an important mental factor that casts a shadow before the match."
