Mark Fish's legacy in South African football is undeniable, and he continues to be an admired figure, not only for his accomplishments on the field but also for the way he played the game.
The 50-year-old ex-Orlando Pirates defender still has the respect and adoration of his former club, Charlton Athletic, whom he represented for five years.
Fish played for the Addicks alongside Shaun Bartlett during the London club's best years in the English Premier League and in an interview posted by Charlton's social media pages, Fish recalled his standout moments.
"Signing for Charlton, I think my first game we played Ipswich away and my first home game was against Chelsea, I'm pretty sure? and we won that game. Beating Chelsea and winning our first game of that season, that was certainly a highlight," stared Fish.
Fish, who also played for Bolton Wanderers and Lazio during his successful spell in Europe, also mentioned wins over Liverpool and Arsenal as major highlights.
"The [Kevin] Lisbie hattrick against Liverpool, I remember that, it was just a phenomenal occasion here at the Valley and probably the best experience just has to be against Arsenal, at Highbury," he said, adding:
"That 4-2 victory, I can still remember exactly what had happened, that day, everything went accordingly. At the end of the day, after 20 minutes we should have been how many goals down? Next thing we find ourselves 4-0 up and then winning the game 4-2.
"I think that for me, was the pinnacle of what Charlton stood for at the time. Against all expectations we went out and performed and got a result. It lives far in the memory of not only Charlton fans but of mine as well," recalled Fish.
