Date: 27 September 2024

South Africa international Percy Tau was named in the startling for the Red Devils, as he joined Hussein El Shahat and Wessam Abou Ali in the attack.
The Red Devils hold dominant recent record over their fierce rivals, having won five of the last six matches in all competitions, including a 2-0 win back in May.
Coach Marcel Koller already had to re-shuffle the pack at the midway point in the first half, as Mohamed Hany was forced off with an injury and replaced by Omar Kamal.
The deadlock was broken just before the halftime break after Al Ahly were awarded a penalty following Mathlouth's foul in the box. Ali stepped up and made no mistake, firing down the middle.
Zamalek were a lot more livelier in the second period, which saw coach Koller make two changes for Al Ahly after Tau and Emam Ashour made way for Mohamed Kafsha and Taher Mohamed.
The game was levelled with 13 minutes left after Nasery Mansy got on the end of Omar Gaber's cross and converted past goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, ultimately sending the game to penalties.
It was Zamalek who held their nerve to convert all four of their spot-kicks after Yahya Attiat Allah and Ali had missed for the Champions League holders.
