As reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 33-year-old German is likely to depart the Catalan giants in the coming days.
The midfielder enjoyed a fruitful debut campaign in Spain as he contributed to 19 goals across all competitions under Barca's ex-manager Xavi Hernandez.
Since Hansi Flick's appointment at the Camp Nou, Gundogan's place in the side has appeared less secure, and a return to City has been mooted.
Romano claims the Blaugrana have decided to let the experienced star leave for free, despite his contract still running for another two years.
City, whom Gundogan represented between 2016 and 2023, are reportedly now in discussions with the player's camp in order to get to the move done.
Guardiola is believed to have already given the green light to the Citizens' board to bring his former captain back to England.
