Manchester United have reportedly shortlisted nine players for one position as Erik ten Hag looks to further strengthen his squad in this transfer window.
Having already signed Netherlands striker Joshua Zirkzee and talented French centre-back Leny Yoro, the Red Devils have been looking to add a midfielder to their ranks after Sofyan Amrabat's loan stint at the club ended in June.
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte emerged as United's main target, but the 20-time English champions are not willing to meet his £51 million (R1.1 billion) asking price, according to reports.

While he is still being considered for the position, HITC claims he is joined by nine more midfielders that United's recruitment are looking at, including Amrabat, who has since returned to Fiorentina in Italy.
Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes and Nottingham Forest's Danilo are said to be on the club's shortlist, after both of them impressed in the Premier League last season.
Sporting Lisbon's Morten Hjulmand, meanwhile, has been watched by United scouts on several occasions over the past year, and AS Monaco's Youssouf Fofana is also appreciated.
Borussia Monchengladbach's Manu Kone is another player the 2023/24 FA Cup winners have on their list, with he and Fofana believed to be available at less than £30 million (R699.4 million) each.
Furthermore, Atalanta's Ederson, Burnley's Sander Berge and Palmeiras' Richard Rios have also been identified as potential targets for United ahead of the coming campaign.
