Before the end of the season, as the Buccaneers were preparing for their last fixtures, the club confirmed that Xoki picked an injury in training.

The club confirmed that the centre-back would need surgery after suffering a knee injury in training, and as a result he missed the last two league matches of the season, as well as the Nedbank Cup final which the Soweto giants eventually won after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns.
With the 29-year-old still out, there have been questions about the likes of Goodman Mosele, Bandile Shandu and Paseka Mako, among others.
As confirmed to the Siya crew by close sources, the trio have also been working on their way back after picking up respective injuries.

Having made 22 appearances for Chippa United where he was on loan, Mosele picked up an injury with five matches to go and hasn't been able to come back on time to make the Bucs squad for pre-season, while Shandu and Mako have been on the mend since missing the better part of the season owing to respective injuries.
All four players remain important members of the Pirates squad and in the plans of coach Jose Riveiro, as confirmed by close sources.
