Earlier in the EUROs, Blaugrana wonderkid Lamine Yamal was asked who his dream acquisition for the club in this transfer window would be, and the Barcelona native responded by saying Nico Williams.
The winger has carried his fine form from the 2023/24 season with his club Athletic Bilbao, when he scored eight goals and grabbed 19 assists in all competitions, into the ongoing EUROs.
In Germany, the 21-year-old has been one of the main protagonists in helping La Furia Roja reach the final of the competition.
It seems like Yamal's wish may be granted because, according to Sport, the Catalan giants have moved one step closer to signing Williams, having recently met with his agent Felix Tainta.
While the particulars of his potential contract, such as length and wages, have not been revealed, it has emerged that the two parties did reach an agreement and that the player is eager for a move to the Camp Nou.
All that is reportedly left is for Barca to trigger the Pamplona native's mooted €58 million (R1.1 billion) release clause, but Bilbao want the transfer fee paid in full up front.

The same report states that while Williams is keen to make the switch from the Basque region to Catalonia, he is also not going to wait the whole window for the move to transpire, with it said he has given the five-time European champions a deadline of the first week of August to get the deal done.
