The story
Mama Joy Chauke and Botha Msila are among the superfans who often get the chance to travel for some of the biggest sporting events in the world such as the Olympics and last year's Rugby World Cup in France.
Democratic Alliance member Renaldo Gouws went viral online for raising questions about the idea of superfans earlier this year, taking aim at Mama Joy, who was sent by the Department of Sports, Arts Culture to cheer on the Springboks at the global rugby showpiece in France.
Now the new Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture has taken to social media to declare that the trips for superfans are done.
"I have stopped all trips for super fans, we have athletes artist who are struggling to raise money to attend sporting events and exhibitions, how do we justify paying for fans?" Patriotic Alliance member announces.
"We shall no longer be paying for these trips and will use that money where it's needed the most," he added:

I honestly don't support Minister Gayton McKenzie's decision to cancel trips for our super fans. Mama Joy and others like her serve as brand ambassadors for South Africa. Their presence at international events is invaluable, not just for the players, but for us back home as well.… pic.twitter.com/Qe17lLyLRt
