The story
It's been a chaotic week for DSTV Premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, who made it official on Wednesday that they've parted ways with PSL Coach of the Season, Rulani Mokwena.
Masandawana enjoyed a relatively successful 2023/24 season, winning a record seventh Premiership title as well as the Inaugural Africa Football League (AFL).
Mokwena, who won sixty of his 91 games in charge at the Brazilians, was released due to not meeting certain objectives and expectations set by the club.
It's been reported that Rulani was expected to win at least two domestic cup competitions and the CAF Champions League in addition to the DStv Prem, with rumours also circling of a falling out between the 37-year-old and Sporting Director, Flemming Berg.
The players returned to pre-season training at Chloorkop on Monday, with assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi taking the reigns on the day, in Rulani's absence.
The club's social media pages shared a clip of the players reuniting for their first training back from their off-season break.
Players such as Matias Esquival, Zuko Mdunyelwa, Siphelele Mkhulise, Lebohang Maboe, Jody February, Terrence Mashego, Ricardo Goss, Rushine De Reuck, Tashreeq Matthews, and Lesiba Nku were all in high spirits.
