Khanye: Why Chiefs Need Pitso

Khanye: Why Chiefs Need Pitso

With Pitso Mosimane currently unattached following his return from Saudi Arabia, former Kaizer Chiefs midfield ace Junior Khanye believes that Amakhosi should do whatever possible to land the tactician's signature.

Since January, Mosimane has been coaching Abha FC but is now back in Mzansi following the team's relegation from the Saudi Pro League.

As the Soweto giants are expected to appoint a new coach to begin working on pre-season plans, Tunisian mentor Nasreddine Nabi's name has come up again as a favourite, while the likes of Portuguese tatician Alexandre Santos and Benni McCarthy have also been linked with the Soweto giants.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Khanye has explained why he believes that Mosimane would be the right man for the Chiefs job.

The Good

"Whenever the topic about the Kaizer Chiefs coaching job comes up, I have always been very clear that at the moment I see no one who is deserving and capable except for Pitso Mosimane. Pitso is one of the experienced coaches we have in South Africa and his understanding of our football is second to none. He understands South African players and I have no doubt that he would do well at Chiefs because he also knows the club very well and understands their culture and playing philosophy. This is the coach who got the best out of the likes of Mshishi (Themba Zwane), Khama Billiat, Keagan Dolly and Percy Tau among others in the early stages of their careers. I do feel that he would do the same at Chiefs to help groom the young players in the team to be at the standard of players that I have mentioned in years to come. I am saying this because Chiefs need players who will be in those high levels for the team to be successful and return to their glory days. Chiefs need Pitso even if he has to bring his own technical team and be allowed to decide on the players he needs to play for the club," said Khanye.

The Bad

"I see some people talking about the team that Pitso coached in Saudi Arabia that was relegated but I am struggling to understand why their relegation would be attributed to the coach. He found them already in a dangerous position in the relegation zone and was hired to try and rescue them. He improved the team despite their relegation," he said.

The Ugly

"Sundowns have been struggling to win the Champions League since Pitso left and I have no doubt that had he been there, the club would have won that trophy again. He is the same coach who made Sundowns play the way they have been playing and you can see the difference in the team ever since he left, things are no longer the same even if the team has been winning. Yes, Rulani (Mokwena) has done well but things could have been better if Pitso was still there," concluded Khanye.
