Chiefs' Advantage Over Al Ahly In Striker Pursuit

Chiefs' Advantage Over Al Ahly In Striker Pursuit

A South African striker is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war, with Kaizer Chiefs and Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly vying for his signature, the Siya crew understands.

Soccer Laduma has previously reported on interest in the player in question, Luther Singh.

Now, Siya sources close to the player have indicated that a move to Amakhosi is probable at this juncture.

The sources have added that Singh's camp is currently evaluating their options, and are leaning towards Chiefs.

"Actually it's Kaizer Chiefs who are in the forefront to get him. They have made contact with his representatives but nothing has been finalised yet but things look good and promising," said the Siya source.

"They want to have a new striker for next season and they feel Luther (Singh) can help them. And the player also wants to get back into Bafana Bafana and playing at home for Chiefs would help him (achieve that) as well," the source observed.

Despite the apparent inclination towards Chiefs, the competition from Al Ahly presents a significant hurdle, according to a second Siya source.

"As much as Chiefs are in the forefront right now they face stiff competition from Al Ahly of Egypt. But with him and his representatives, Chiefs are their first priority and that gives them the chance to sign him. So let's just wait for few days or weeks and things will be done," the second source stated.

Singh's potential move is further complicated by previous interest from clubs elsewhere. The striker's next destination remains open, with his decision likely to impact his aspirations of returning to the national team setup.

Chiefs' pursuit of Singh underscores their ambition to bolster their attacking options for the upcoming season. Securing a player of Singh's calibre would not only strengthen their squad but also signal their intent to compete at the highest level domestically and on the continent.

Amakhosi were also linked with an interest in Percy Tau on Thursday, but they will have a short list of options and then determine which targets are realistic.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but the club had not responded by the time this story was published.
