According to the Daily Mail, many of the Red Devils squad expect the Dutchman to be relieved of his duties at the end of the season.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently became the club's new minority shareholder, and has appointed a number of new staff to oversee the transformation of the Premier League side's fortunes.
The English billionaire has integrated INEOS sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford into the club's hierarchy, and has also appointed Omar Berrada as United's new chief executive. The Mancunians are also understood to be looking to lure Dan Ashworth from Newcastle United to make him their new director of football.
The same report claims that the Ten Hag situation was always going to be addressed at the end of the season, and it is believed the 54-year-old has confided in his close staff and agents that his future at Old Trafford is now no longer a certainty.
The former Ajax Amsterdam boss could earn more time under the new ownership with UEFA Champions League qualification and a win in the FA Cup, but having drawn Liverpool in the domestic competition's next round and now 11 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa on the EPL table, these achievements currently seem unlikely.

There are also rumours of discontent in the United dressing regarding the intensity of Ten Hag's training sessions. It is believed some players want him to ease up during training so he can keep fit what is already an injury-hit team for the rest of the season.
