Less Trophies, More Apologies For Chiefs

Less Trophies, More Apologies For Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs' interim coach Cavin Johnson has issued a heartfelt apology to the club's 16-million strong supporter base.

For the last nine years, Chiefs fans have been yearning for trophies. Instead, they have received a host of apologies, the latest coming from Johnson after his side were embarrassingly eliminated from the first round of the Nedbank Cup at the hands of Milford.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship side followed in the footsteps of Baroka FC, the University of Pretoria, Richards Bay FC, and TS Galaxy in claiming Amakhosi's scalp, as they edged Chiefs 5-4 on penalties after the match initially ended in a goalless draw.

With yet another trophy having eluded the Soweto giants, Johnson offered his heartfelt apologies to the Amakhosi faithful.

"Yeah, you've got to apologize to them, the 16,000,000 supporters that we have. And I'm sure they've seen the game on television. It's not that we allowed the team to come at us, I mean they never had a shot in goal I think."

"But we tried the best we could in order to get as far as we could with this particular tournament and with this trophy drought being as it is at the moment, now we've lost it," he told journalists.

Chiefs will turn their attention to the league, where they sit in sixth position with 25 points after 17 matches played.
