According to Brazilian outlet UOL, the Al Hilal forward is believed to have helped his ex-teammate by paying his court fees.
The outlet claims Neymar, 32, paid €150 000 (R3.1 million) to a Spanish court in August last year in a payment for "mitigating compensation for damage caused".
It is thought the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain winger's payment impacted the prison sentence handed to Alves on Thursday.
The 40-year-old was told by a Barcelona court he would need to serve four and half years behind bars after he was found guilty of sexual assault, which is believed to be the minimum sentence.
Some rape trials in Spain have seen those convicted be put away for 12 years as a maximum.
Alves was arrested in January last year after he was accused of raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.
