Result: Young Africans 1-1 Al Ahly
Date: 02 December 2023
Venue: Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium
Tau was among the three changes made by the Red Devils, alongside Ali Maaloul and Rami Rabia, following their 3-0 win over Medeama in their opening group game.
The game got off to a lively start as Yanga nearly went ahead on nine minutes after Clement Mzize had a shot in the box saved by goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
After a frantic start, where the visitors also had a fair share of their chances, the tempo of the game slowed down towards the half-hour mark, with goal-mouth opportunities hard to come by.
The hosts had the momentum in the latter phase of the first stanza, as they threatened to break the deadlock but could not bring El Shenawy into action and the sides went to the interval without goals.
Al Ahly started the second stanza on a high note, as they put Yanga under pressure and created chances but were let down by their finishing.
The Red Devils continued to carve out openings but without the finishing touches and Marcel Koller reacted with a double attacking change in the last 21 minutes, as Amr El Soleya replaced Marwan Attia and Taher Mohamed came on for Kahraba.
The hosts were happy to sit back and absorb the pressure in the closing stages but they paid the price as Tau broke the deadlock for the Egyptian giants five minutes before time with a header in the box towards the bottom corner.
However, Pacôme Zouzoua quickly levelled matters for Young Africans in the last minute with a strike in the box after he was teed up by Kennedy Musonda.
Al Ahly remained top of Group D with four points while Yanga picked up their first point.
