Mntambo's foundation build multi-purpose court
Linda Mntambo got behind a positive cause by Powerade, who continue to cultivate grassroot sports and providing opportunities for young athletes to showcase their talents.
Powerade, through their 'pause is power' campaign, built a facility that will accommodate at least four different sporting codes.
"The netball court was refurbished and turned into a multipurpose sport court for netball, basketball, five-a-side football and hockey," read a statement from Mntambo's foundation on Instagram.
"Thank you to @poweradeza for using their resources to provide the community of Mzimhlophe/ Orlando West and surrounding areas with this state of the art facility. Surely stars will be made from this court," concluded the statement shared on IG.
Mntambo was invited to the launch of the court alongside former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns star Josta Dladla, as they played some basketball and cooled off with Powerade:
"I am thrilled to witness brands like Powerade embodying the spirit of giving back, recognizing the importance of community development through sports, exemplifying the core principles of service delivery and the 'Batho Pele' principle.
"We encourage more brands to follow suit and partner with the city," stated MMC of Community Development in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr. Magwentshu, in a press release from Powerade, who shared the history behind Orlando West Park:
"The Orlando West Park was unveiled all the way back in 2010 and functions also community meeting place. However, the park is more than just a collection of sporting and recreational equipment, It contains swings, a netball and basketball court, a professional-size football pitch, and a 1km running track.
"Powerade's goal is to ensure that everyone they encounter not only feels empowered and supported, but also emerges stronger and more resilient than before," they wrote in the press release.
