A former FC Barcelona attacker has confirmed he has ditched Spain to represent one of Africa's biggest teams.
La Masia product Ilias Akhomach had represented Spain in the junior set up in the last few years, but it has now had a change of heart about in the senior side.
The 19-year-old has now switched his allegiance to African giants Morocco, confirming the news on his Instagram with the quote "Dima Maghreb," which means "Always Morocco."
Akhomach made his Barcelona debut as a 17-year-old under Xavi Hernandez in 2021, but he was unable to get regular minutes after that and decided against signing a new deal.
The attacker then secured a permanent move to Villarreal on a free transfer and has racked up eight appearances ten appearances for the Yellow Submarine this campaign so far.
Akhomach has previously revealed there is no bad blood over his departure from the Camp Nou before the start of the season.
"These are football things, I don't hold a grudge against Xavi. Yes, I would have liked to talk to him, but to thank him for the time I spent in the first team," he told Catalunya Radio.
"Now I'm at Villarreal, but Barça will always be one of big ones. Why shouldn't I come back some day?"
