As EA Sports enters its post-FIFA era, the gaming publishers stunned when naming Erling Haaland as their EA FC 24 cover star.
Replacing Kylian Mbappe as the face of EA Sports' football games wasn't going to be swept under the rug and ignored easily, and the reasoning for Mbappe snub has been revealed.

Mbappe EA FC 24 cover snub explained
Manchester City star Haaland was confirmed as the cover star for EA FC 24 earlier this month, when EA officially unveiled the first title in its upcoming EA Sports FC game series.
Following the Manchester City striker's incredible 2022/23 season in which he won the treble, scoring 52 goals in his first season at the English club.
There's no doubt that he's a fitting and popular cover star – and has the star quality of a typical FIFA cover star – despite his early career success, it was still a surprise from some to see the Norwegian replace Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe was the face of FIFA 23, FIFA 22 and FIFA 21 and it looked likely that he'd be the face of EA FC 24 as well.
French publication Le Parisien revealed that EA decided not to renew Mbappe's contract because his club, PSG, was asked to provide the players it would like to see represent it in official EA FC 24 marketing material – and instead of their talisman Mbappe, players like Lee Kang-In, Marco Asensio and Marquinhos were chosen.
It seems as if PSG weren't willing to risk Mbappe being on the cover of EA FC 24 in its new kit, only for Mbappe to move clubs before the game is even released.
Mbappe has be subject to plenty of transfer speculation once again this window, with the 24-year-old's contract set to run out in 2024 and the Frenchman not showing signs of wanting to extend.
Apart from a ludicrous offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, Mbappe has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
