Coming through the juniors ranks, Orlando Pirates were one of the clubs that Charlie Hlalele and his twin brother Freddie played for and he has fond memories about his time with the club.
Having previously played for Bloemfontein Celtic juniors, where current Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki was his coach, Hlalele went on to play for Pirates' reserves, AmaZulu FC and Polokwane City, among other clubs.

Pirates and Bafana Bafana striker Zakhele Lepasa and Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart are some of the players that Hlalele had played with during his days at the Buccaneers.
"At Pirates, I played with some of the guys who are now top players in the PSL. I'm talking about guys like Zakhele Lepasa and Yusuf Maart. It was a nice environment and guys like Kopano Thuntsane, the goalkeeper who has just been released from Pirates, were part of the group. Yanga Baliso, who has been in Finland is one of the players we had in our group in those days and the list is endless but Lepasa and Maart lead the list," said Hlalele.
