Moore: Chiefs Should've Selected A Coach Earlier

South African elite agent Rob Moore has given his view on how Kaizer Chiefs should have handled their coaching situation and weighed in on their prospects for the upcoming season.

Chiefs were in talks with former Yanga coach Nasreddine Nabi last month, with the view of bringing him on board to replace Arthur Zwane, as previously revealed by the Siya crew.

However, the negotiations between the two parties broke down, as Nabi wanted to work with his own technical team while the Glamour Boys were not willing to completely let go of Zwane, assistant coach Dillon Sheppard and backroom staff, the Siya crew were led to believe.

Chiefs eventually settled for a technical team reshuffle, which saw Head of Technical and Youth Development, Molefi Ntseki appointed as the head coach while Zwane was demoted to being an assistant coach alongside Sheppard, in what appeared to be a late decision, with pre-season already underway.

Moore, who facilitated former Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom's move to Major League Soccer outfit St. Louis City in December last year, says the signs were already there around March and April this year that Zwane was not going to give Amakhosi what they had hoped for and that they should have started looking for coaching solutions during that period, in preparation of the 2023/24 season.

"It was clear they were not going to have a season they were probably hoping to have. In March, April (2023) already you start looking at where are the solutions," Moore said on This Is Football Africa YouTube channel.

"And if it's overseas or outside the country, you start your discussions (with a potential new coach) then already. The aim is probably a week, two or three before the end of the season you know what coach you're going with."

The Cape Town native super agent, who also represents Manchester United first team coach (for forward players) Benni McCarthy, went on and stated that the best season Chiefs could hope for is to at least replicate rivals Orlando Pirates' 2022/23 campaign. Realistically, he does not see them finishing ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, the Buccaneers and even SuperSport United.

"If you ask me my gut feeling on where Chiefs are gonna be? Probably not enough to be ahead of Sundowns, Pirates nor SuperSport," he said.

"I think at best, Chiefs can hope for a season that Pirates had last season, let's say Pirates Lite season, because maybe they can make a cup final but at best Chiefs are gonna have to hope to end up second or third," he added.
