Billiat & Chiefs Agree New One Year Deal?

Billiat & Chiefs Agree New One Year Deal?

The future of Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat has been a topic of transfer reports and debate for over a season by fans and pundits.

Now, Siya sources have indicated that the Zimbabwean forward and his club have probably agreed on a new one-year deal.

Although the details of the deal were not readily available, a reliable source close to both the player and the club disclosed that the deal was thought to be sealed over the weekend.

The source told the Siya crew that there was perhaps only one team which was interested in Billiat's services. They added that the player and his representatives would have decided that staying at Naturena for another season was, in their opinion, his best possible option.

"Apparently, the talks had been going on since the end of the season after their game against Cape Town City which they lost 1-0," said the Siya source.

"The team wanted to hear from the player's side if he wanted to stay with the conditions they were giving him and it came to light that the player wanted to stay.

"They have agreed on most of the issues included in the contract which I am not at liberty to say. But what I can say is that they have agreed on a new one-year renewable deal," the source said.

A different source added that although there was expected interest from Young Africans, it was thought that the player was probably not interested to go there. This is allegedly because Tanzanian league salaries are expectedly lower, when compared to what Billiat is expected to be currently receiving at Chiefs in South Africa's DStv Premiership.

"Yes, there was interest from Yanga when they knew that he would be a free agent at the end of June but it's believed they were offering just plus minus R100,000 as salary which is not close to half of what he is getting at Chiefs," the source believes.

"So, it seems that's the other reason why he has decided to agree to stay for at least another year at Chiefs. He didn't get a better offer than Chiefs and the club also wanted to keep him for another year or so.

"Hence, he is staying. It's a win-win situation for both parties" added the source.

Billiat's agent Godfrey Bakasa could neither confirm nor deny the Chiefs deal when contacted for comment.

"I can't really confirm anything officially as yet, but as soon as there is any development then I will give you an update," Bakasa told the Siya crew.

Billiat joined Amakhosi in 2018 with a five-year deal which ends on June 30 this year. His move to Chiefs came after a successful stint at Mamelodi Sundowns where he won the CAF Champions League in 2016 and in the same season he was named the PSL Player of the Season.

His stay at Chiefs has not been as successful as fans would have hoped as he is yet to win major silverware with the club.
