On Sunday, the London giants announced in a statement that they had parted ways with the 47-year-old Englishman following the team's Premier League loss to Aston Villa at home on the weekend.
The decision did not come as a huge surprise to fans given the Blues' inconsistent domestic form since Potter's arrival, with the English managing to win just seven of his 22 league matches after replacing Thomas Tuchel in September.
Rumours suggested many of the players in Chelsea's dressing room, however, were taken aback after reading the news on social media. Aubameyang, though, could be among those relieved.
The former Gabon captain has played a bit-part role since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, with Potter removing him from the team's Champions League squad for the knockout stage of the tournament which begins this month.
According to the Mirror, fans online noticed Aubameyang 'liked' the club's post on Instagram in which they announced Potter's dismissal, leading many to wonder whether the ex-Barcelona man is looking forward to life without the English tactician.
Aubameyang made just nine starts in 17 appearances under Potter and was left out of the team entirely in each of Chelsea's previous three league matches.
