With Lionel Messi reportedly leaning towards a Paris Saint-Germain exit, the head coach of David Beckham-owned Inter Miami has revealed that the club want the sign the Argentine.
'Lionel Messi Has Been A Failure At PSG
Earlier this month, French publication L'Equipe reported that the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner was looking at possibly calling time on his career with PSG, and that the Major League Soccer outfit were one of the favourites to lure the Rosario native away from the Parc des Princes.
Now, Inter manager Phil Neville has confirmed the rumours by disclosing that his side are not only interested in signing the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner, but also his former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets at the end of the current European season.
"I'm not going to deny [it and say] there isn't truth in the speculation that we're interested in Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets," the former Manchester United and Everton midfielder told The Times.
"We want to bring the best players in the world to this football club. Messi and Busquets are the two that stand out more in recent years. They're great players who would still be a massive benefit to this organization. For MLS, it would be a game-changer.
"Since I joined Miami, I think we've been linked with every single top player in world football. From Sergio Ramos, Dani Alves, Robert Lewandowski, Willian, Cesc Fabregas, Luis Suarez... all of them you can rattle off."
With the football icon's PSG contract set to expire at the end of the season, it appeared as though Messi would re-sign with Les Parisiens following his exploits in Qatar, but contract talks seem to have stalled in recent weeks and teams such as Inter Miami are looking to take advantage.
Ramos Forced Into International Retirement?
The MLS club has already had the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi don their jersey and come mid-2023, they will be hoping to add Messi and Busquets to the list of illustrious players to have called the DRV PNK Stadium home.
