Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted that he may not honour his new contract with the reigning Premier League champions, despite only recently signing an extension.
Liverpool's Top Four Charge Dented After Big Loss
The Spaniard has had tremendous success with the Citizens since deciding to take the reins at the Etihad Stadium in 2016.
Guardiola has secured nine major trophies during his time in England so far, and with the club having given him a fresh new deal in November 2022, the City hierarchy will be hoping the former midfielder can help them claim yet more silverware.
However, the 51-year-old has now seemingly thrown a spanner in the works with his recent comments, claiming that while he has agreed a new contract with the Citizens, he does not feel compelled to stay in Manchester if results begin to change drastically.
"The moment I feel something is wrong, I will resign or not renew my contract," the La Masia alumni told reporters, as per Goal.
"I will not stay as [ex-Manchester United manager Sir Alex] Ferguson or [former Arsenal boss Arsene] Wenger did.
"The contract is just a piece of paper.
"I extended my commitment to the club because I feel the team can still do well under my leadership.
"In the end, it's all about the results. If we get tired of each other, I'm not going to stay until the end because of the contract."
