Can Morocco Win World Cup? Regragui Gives Honest Answer

With Morocco making history by becoming the first African nation to make it to a FIFA World Cup semi-final, head coach Walid Regragui gave his honest opinion when asked if his charges could win the entire tournament.

This past weekend, the Atlas Lions made history as they thwarted yet another superpower of world football to progress to the final four of the World Cup.

The north Africans' historic 1-0 victory over Portugal in the quarter-finals means that Regragui and his charges are now two games away from lifting the iconic trophy, and while speaking to the media, the 46-year-old tactician has now suggested that winning the global showpiece is not an impossible feat.

"What's important for future generations is we've shown that it is possible for an African team to get to the semi-finals of the World Cup. Or even the final, why not?" Regragui said, as per ESPN.

"In one press conference three or four matches ago, I was asked we could win the World Cup. And I said, 'Why not?'

"We can dream. Why shouldn't we dream? If you don't dream, you don't get anywhere. It doesn't cost you anything."

The 2021/22 CAF Champions League-winning coach also says it is not because of luck that Morocco have made it this far in the competition.

"We are the team that everyone loves in this World Cup because we are showing the world you can succeed even if you don't have as much talent and money," Regragui added.

"It is no miracle. Many of you will say it is, especially in Europe, but we have beaten Belgium, Spain and Portugal without conceding.

"We have made our people proud and our continent and so many people around, when you watch Rocky you want to support Rocky Balboa."
