Three years after he was sold to Barcelona, Antoine Griezmann is officially set to return to Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal.

Having initially returned to the Metropolitano Stadium on a two-year loan from the Blaugrana, Los Rojiblancos and the Catalan giants have renegotiated the terms of their agreement to complete a permanent deal for the 31-year-old.

Griezmann's initial loan deal included a purchase option of €40 million (R702 million), but Barca have confirmed that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner will depart the Camp Nou for a fee of €20 million (R350 million).
"Atletico de Madrid and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement over the transfer of Antoine Griezmann, who since the summer of 2021 and until now had played for our club on loan from FC Barcelona," an official statement from Atletico read.
"In addition, the French striker has signed a contract that will link him to our club until 30 June 2026.
"In the current campaign, the French striker has taken part in all the league and continental matches played by the team, in which he has scored three goals and provided two assists."

The France international will also reportedly take a 25% pay cut to rejoin Diego Simeone's side on a permanent basis, while the move will subsequently free up space on Barca's wage bill, helping them alleviate their ongoing financial crisis.
