A Paris Saint-Germain star Vitinha, who shares a dressing room with both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, has made a unique claim about the two all-time greats.
Alves: Why Ronaldo Is My Toughest Opponent
It is clear the two players are different from one another, with the Argentine phenomenon being all about elegance and slyness, whereas the Portuguese superstar is a master of thrust and power.
In a career that has yielded 12 Ballons d'Or between them, Messi and Ronaldo have left numerous records in their wake, but a player who currently plays with the ex-Barcelona star at PSG and is a teammate of Real Madrid's all-time top goalscorer on the international stage believes the duo are more similar than people perhaps realise.
Speaking to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, playmaker Vitinha said: "There are far more things that unite them than things that separate them.
"They each have their own way of playing and their own characteristics, but the things that unite them are immense. The will to always want more, without taking into account what they have already earned, is part of it."
"If I won half of what they won, that would be amazing! The desire to keep scoring goals, making assists, playing great games, helping the team.
"That's what defines them as the best of all time and I'm privileged to have had the time to play with them."
Messi Surpasses Ronaldo With Winner Against Lyon
With both men now entering the final 12 months of their respective contracts, Ronaldo and Messi could well be on the move yet again, but before their futures are decided, there is still a lot they could achieve, not least another quest for World Cup glory in Qatar later this year.
