Veteran playmaker Themba Zwane dazzled with a stellar performance, bagging a brace to match Yassine Benzia's double in Bafana Bafana and Algeria's thrilling 3-3 draw in a FIFA Series clash at the Nelson Mandela Stadium on Tuesday.
Benzia opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, with Zwane tucking away an equaliser twelve minutes later. Mshishi then gave Bafana the lead in scintilating fashion on the stroke of half-time, with an uncharacteristic error by Ronwen Williams allowing the Desert Foxes back into the game.
Elias Mokwana played a key role getting Bafana back into the lead as he provided the assist to Iqraam Rayners' goal, which was later cancelled out by an acrobatic by Benzia five minutes later.
Here's how the readers reacted to the "Zwane At Double As Bafana Algeria Play-Out 6-Goal Thriller" story:
"Bafana Bafana missed Makgopadolski and thanks to Mshishi for dedicating those two goals to Mokgopa, with the sleeping celebration. That sums up the brotherhood this current team possesses. Coach, maybe next time try Morena on that right wing-back side and rest Mobbie because he's the weakest link. Lastly, please give 'Ambulance ya se Tembisa' Patrick Maswanganyi a fair chance in double-10 with Zwane," says resealaphuti.
"Zwane is aging like fine wine, he's right footed but to score two goals with his left?! Amazing," says Yellow dawana.
"Mshishi Zwane neh... I believe the guy can still carry us to the 2026 World Cup. The guy's age seems to be going backwards instead, WOW!!
"Oh how I missed Mudau as well, Mobbie was our weak point at right back, although he made those darting runs to go forward. The overall performance was good, even their crowd never intimidated us. Instead, we were thriving on the electric atmosphere which they created. It was a good omen for us. Thanks Broos and the technical team, yep we can see your hard work, it speaks for itself," says user949915.
"Congratulations to Bafana Bafana, the future looks bright if they can keep their heads up. Broos must get 1 or 2 good strikers," says makausemakause53.
"Bvuma's muthi is dangerous. Why is it when he is on the bench, the starting goalkeepers make terrible mistakes," says mazelesiphamandla.
"That Benzia goal!" said sibusinoheku45.
"SAFA must give Hugo Broos another 5-year contract. Bafana are not underdogs anymore," added sibusinoheku45.
"That was a great game. I am slowly becoming a Bafana fan again, Zwane is the best madoda," says Dominate-downs.
"If Hugo can try Rayners, Mosele and Margeman, then why not Du Preez? The striking force was blunt. Next time, instead of Mayambela, he should try Nyoso.(Lorch)," says Soccer Fanatic.
"Du Preez is a cow. Get that into your mind. He was given a chance but he failed. Players like Mokwana have played two games and scored two goals. That's what we need. Not a striker who misses a goal on the goal line," replies Saavedra.
"Blunt how? We managed to score 3 goals. Let's keep Mayo and Rayners because we still have Foster in UK," replies Cutter.
"Credit to Broos. This madala is slowly but surely building Bafana to become a team to beat. I like the way players are understanding each other, they are not afraid to play and they are full of confidence. These mistakes they are making are a lesson to them not to be over confident," adds Cutter.
"Mayambela has never impressed me. Rayners must pull up his socks," says Soccer Fanatic.
Here's how fans responded to Bafana's match on social media, with a host of fans heaping praise on Themba Zwane's performance:
