Three Kaizer Chiefs players were singled out for their performance in the Soweto Derby win over Orlando Pirates, with one of them being played out of position by Ernst Middendorp…
It was another good day at the office for Amakhosi as they beat the Buccaneer for the third time this season, with Lebogang Manyama scoring the decisive goal on Saturday as they went seven points clear at the top of the Absa Premiership table.
The German coach will have been delighted with the team effort on the day as they managed to keep another clean sheet and complete their first league double over Pirates since 2005/06, but he also mentioned three players by name for their efforts at FNB Stadium.
Speaking to the club's official website, Middendorp said, "I was pleased with Kearyn's contribution… He played more as a wing but was also getting involved in the centre of the midfield. His mainly was to use the channels on the wings and create some possibilities for us. I saw him at training and thought he deserved a reward for his hard work.
"The win came as a result of a team effort. Daniel Akpeyi gave a Man of the Match performance with some superb shot-stopping moments, however there were moments where I thought we didn't use our transition properly. Manyama scored a beauty and I think he did well in his role."
It now remains to be seen whether Middendorp will switch things up this weekend when they take on strugglers, AmaZulu, or stick to the players that got him a much-needed win on Saturday afternoon.
