Pirates Set To Trigger Buyout Clause?

Pirates Set To Trigger Buyout Clause?

Orlando Pirates may be close to triggering the buyout clause of a player who is already at the club, the Siya crew understands.

Soccer Laduma had recently reported on Thalente Mbatha's options for next season, speaking exclusively to SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews

The 24-year-old midfielder is on a six-month loan contract at Pirates at the moment. He has been impressing supporters and the technical team with his performances so far.

Siya sources close to the two clubs have indicated how Bucs could proceed with signing the SuperSport United player permanently.

The sources are hopeful that a deal could be finalised before the end of this season.

"Everything is in place. It's close to being done with the talks and the agreements between the two clubs as well as the player involved. The technical team is very happy with what they have seen so far and they don't want to let him go," said the Siya source.

"So, management has taken the option to buy (the player) as the loan deal expires at the end of the season in June. The player is also happy to stay because he is enjoying more game time (at Pirates) when compared to his time at SuperSport United," the source observed.

A second Siya source stated that if all goes well then SuperSport United may be interested in Pirates' Thabang Monare. Earlier this week, Soccer Laduma had already reported on how SuperSport are looking at the Bafana Bafana star. Though, that doesn't necessarily mean these deals are dependent on one another.

"The way things stand now, Thabang Monare could be moving to SuperSport United. They have shown interest and inquired about him and it will now all depend on whether the player wants to move to Pretoria or what. But the chance for him moving to SuperSport is high at the moment and Mbatha staying at Pirates as well (is of a high probability," the second Siya source stated.

Soccer Laduma contacted United's CEO Stan Matthews who didn't deny the possibilities of these transfers but he wanted to point out that these are separate scenarios. Normally, if players are "exchanged" between two clubs, teams prefer to work on any potential signing separately than to call it a "swap deal".

"Thalente Mbatha's move to Pirates is a standalone possibility at this stage and does not involve any other players," Matthews told Soccer Laduma.

The Siya crew contacted Pirates for a comment but the club has not responded by the time this story was published.
