The progress for Orlando Pirates in the CAF Champions League could guide the club on the important decisions to make about the squad for the remainder of the campaign and the Betway Premiership 2024/25 season.
As part of the 34 players confirmed by the Buccaneers for the Champions League when their jersey numbers were revealed in August, some have struggled to shake off the injuries that have delayed their progress, while one of the stars has since left the club.

In September, Pirates confirmed reaching an agreement with Lesedi Kapinga for his early release from his contract, with the midfielder having since signed for Sekhukhune United, while the likes of Zakhele Lepasa, Goodman Mosele, Bandile Shandu, Tapelo Xoki, Thabitso Lebitso and Sandile Mthethwa have taken long on the sidelines owing to injury.
Bucs currently also have Olisa Ndah ruled out for the rest of this year due to an injury.
Having started the Champions League group stages on a high with a 2-1 victory over CR Belouizdad in Algeria last Tuesday, the Soweto giants will be back in action in the competition on Saturday afternoon with a clash against Egyptian giants Al Ahly at Orlando Stadium.
Indications are that the club might need to reinforce the squad depending on their progress in the competition, with some players understood to be targeted for January.
Meanwhile, Pirates have had former Chippa United midfielder Siphelele Luthuli training under the watchful eye of Jose Riveiro, with a decision expected to be made on him in the coming days.

Luthuli is currently a free agent, and along with the likes of Chippa and Bafana Bafana midfielder Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Motsepe Foundation Championship top goalscorer Muzomuhle Khanyi, these are some of the targets for Bucs.
Pirates are second in Group C and tied on three points with Ahly, going into their match.
