Possible Gauteng Move Affected, Long-Term Injury Confirmed

Possible Gauteng Move Affected, Long-Term Injury Confirmed

Any chance of a potential move to Gauteng for a Stellenbosch FC star might have been affected by the latest setback in his career, the Siya crew understands.

After being strongly linked with Kaizer Chiefs while he was on top of his game and scoring goals for TS Galaxy last season, Lehlogonolo Mojela had his signature won by Stellenbosch at the end of the season.

The Cape Winelands outfit signed the stocky forward on a long-term contract though it is understood that the club doesn't have any intentions of standing on his way should a right offer be made for his services.

At Galaxy, Mojela scored seven goals across all competitions while his name also appeared on the assists' charts in his maiden top flight season.

This season with Stellies, the 28-year-old had a flying start with two goals in the MTN8, including in the final against Orlando Pirates which the Western Cape outfit lost.

Mojela had already scored in the Betway Premiership as well, before being hampered by injury on his progress.

His tally of goals had already gone up to six in nine appearances for Stellies, having scored three other goals in the CAF Confederation Cup.

According to the information made available to this publication, Chiefs have still been following the player's progress, and so are Pirates who had been impressed with his early season form.

"He is a hard-working player that any club would like to have. A Gauteng move has been a possibility for him but now he has to deal with the injury," said the source.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch have confirmed that Mojela has undergone successful surgery for his knee injury, and as a result is ruled out for the better part of the season.

"Stellenbosch FC can confirm that striker Lehlogonolo Mojela has successfully undergone surgery to address a reoccurrence of a pre-existing knee injury. Unfortunately, the recovery process will rule Mojela out for the majority of the remainder of the season while the club's medical and performance teams provide him with the necessary support to ensure he returns stronger," confirmed Stellenbosch on the club's official website.
