16 PSL Coaches: Are They Qualified?

With the SAFA National Executive Committee (NEC) recently approving the implementation of coaching standards beginning in the 2024/25 PSL season – the Siya crew looks at the 16 PSL coaches and their qualifications.

As per the incoming rules, a coach will be required to have at least a CAF A Licence or a UEFA Pro Licence.

In addition to having a minimum of five years as a professional head coach, coaches must have also won a trophy in the last seven years of coaching.

In terms of the current landscape, the Premiership has seven Pro licenses, or an equivalent thereof. There are three UEFA A license holders.

Meanwhile two coaches possess CAF D and C licenses.

Orlando Pirates: Jose Riveiro - UEFA Pro License

SuperSport United: Gavin Hunt – Currently doing CAF A License - UEFA A Licence

Cape Town City: Eric Tinkler - Currently doing CAF A License, Uefa A licence

Kaizer Chiefs: Cavin Johnson – SAFA Level III Pro Licence, Dutch FA (KNVB) certificate, and Brazil FA Advanced Course certificate

Polokwane City: Phuti Mohafe - Business management N6 certificate, Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services

Cape Town Spurs: Ernst Middendorp – UEFA Pro license
