There have been reports in England that McCarthy's United job is in jeopardy following links with the vacant Kaizer Chiefs coaching role.
However, shedding light on the matter, McCarthy's long-time agent Rob Moore, revealed that the only job that would entice the country's record scorer would be the Bafana Bafana national team job, having missed the opportunity two years ago.
McCarthy was strongly linked as the man to replace Molefi Ntseki at the helm of Bafana although a deal fell through when SAFA did not allow him to rope in his preferred technical team.
"To be honest, club football I don't think. The national team would be a different story potentially I think. He never not wanted to take the national team job when it was offered to him, he didn't take it because they didn't allow him to bring the backroom staff that he wanted to bring at the time," he told Metro FM's Sports Night Live With Andile.
"That's probably the only job that would entice him to come back and I think he would be an interesting candidate. He would have an interesting connection with fans, he would get people excited about Bafana again," he said.
