No Financial Reward For Perfect Pirates?

No Financial Reward For Perfect Pirates?

It is uncertain whether Orlando Pirates would be financially rewarded for their perfect start in the Premiership, should they win their next two league matches, as has been the norm with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates have made their best start in over two decades after winning their first six matches and as a result top the standings by three points, over second-placed Sundowns.

Ordinarily, the talk would be around which team between the Buccaneers and the Brazilians would be crowned winners of the first quarter, in a block of the first eight fixtures, in a reward mechanism dubbed the Q-Innovation.

Jose Riveiro's charges would be the best team in terms of points if they win their next league matches or if Masandawana drops points in either of their next two games, which normally would have seen such a team awarded with a Q-Innovation, Q-1 prize money of R1.5 million.

However, with the Premiership prize money also yet to be revealed, it is unclear whether the new sponsors would retain the Q-Innovation.

There is talk that the new Premiership prize money could be increased, but the PSL has been mum on matters regarding prize monies, especially after they announced that the betting company's sponsorship is worth R900 million over three seasons.

Ahead of the League's general meeting in under two weeks from now, where a new executive committee would be selected, it is expected that one of the other main agendas would be the finalization or resolving of such matters.

On Thursday, the PSL announced nominees for a new executive committee to be voted for in their annual general meeting while it also confirmed that incumbent chairman, Irvin Khoza, would be elected unopposed, as a sole nominee for the chairmanship role.

The Q-Innovation prize money has not increased since it was introduced during ABSA sponsorship days in the 2012/13 campaign.
